To raze Israel to the ground, to batter down, to destroy, to annihilate, to liquidate, to erase Israel, to wipe it off the map – this is what Iran’s President demanded – at least this is what we read about or heard of at the end of October 2005. Spreading the news was very effective. This is a declaration of war they said. Obviously government and media were at one with their indignation. It goes around the world.

Oorlog met Iran staat op stapel, net als destijds met Irak om voorgelogen redenen. Iran heeft nog lang geen gevaarlijk nucleaire capaciteiten. Dankzij het dommaak beleid van onze advertentieplatformskranten weten de meeste mensen totaal niet wat er speelt. Iran heeft veel olie, de dollar staat op instorten, heeft olieverkopen in dollars nodig om staande te blijven, Iran gaat olie voortaan in euro’s verkopen, dus Iran moet dood. Een zwartmaak campagne van Iran is het gevolg en onze kranten doen uit pure dommigheid gewoon mee. Dat terwijl de Iraanse president Ahmadinejad eigenlijk gewoon aan onze kant staat. Ahmadinejad kwam in het nieuws door zijn veronderstelde holocaustontkenning en zijn zogenaamde wens tot vernietiging van Israel. Beide uitspraken waren onwaar, zijn woorden zijn destijds (bewust) compleet verkeerd vertaald. Dat pulpbladen als de Telegraaf en stokerige sensatielogs als Geenstijl dat kortzichtig overnemen, is nog enigszins te verwachten maar zelfs de serieuze media namen de verdraaide woorden van Amhadinejad klakkeloos over. Voor hen die het interesseert, hier de werkelijke woorden van Ahmadinejad destijds, op basis van twee onafhankelijke vertalingen en daar komt geen holocaustontkenning in voor. Hardliner my ass, dat is een mediafabel.

Tijd om wakker te worden nu. Amhadinejad stuurde Bush een indrukwekkende brief…
