An analysis of media rhetoric on its way to war against Iran – Commenting on the alleged statements of Iran’s President Ahmadinejad .

04/19/06 “Kein Krieg!” — -- – “But now that I’m on Iran, the threat to Iran, of course — (applause) — the threat from Iran is, of course, their stated objective to destroy our strong ally Israel. That’s a threat, a serious threat. It’s a threat to world peace; it’s a threat, in essence, to a strong alliance. I made it clear, I’ll make it clear again, that we will use military might to protect our ally, Israel, and — (applause.)” George W. Bush, US-President, 2006-03-20 in Cleveland (Ohio) in an off-the-cuff speech (source: www.whitehouse.gov) But why does Bush speak of Iran’s objective to destroy Israel?

Does Iran’s President wants Israel wiped off the map?

To raze Israel to the ground, to batter down, to destroy, to annihilate, to liquidate, to erase Israel, to wipe it off the map – this is what Iran’s President demanded – at least this is what we read about or heard of at the end of October 2005. Spreading the news was very effective. This is a declaration of war they said. Obviously government and media were at one with their indignation. It goes around the world.

Israel moves to block missiles to Iran

Geplaatst door Kris Roman op 01/07/2009

missile-s-300-system-bgIsrael has intensified its efforts to block the sale of advanced Russian air-defense missiles to Iran that would be a serious obstacle to any Israeli airstrikes against the Islamic Republic’s nuclear infrastructure, according to media reports in Tel Aviv and Moscow.

The outcome of that effort could have immense ramifications for the Middle East and particularly for U.S. President Barack Obama’s outreach to Tehran to engage in diplomatic dialogue to resolve the question of Iran’s controversial nuclear program and relations with “the Great Satan.”

Relations between Israel and Russia have grown tense over a significant change in Moscow’s attitude regarding the possible sale of S-300 air defense missiles to Iran. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin and asked him to prevent the arms deal from going through.

Ahead of a meeting between U.S. President Barack Obama with his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev next week, Israel has began an international effort to pressure Russia not to complete the sale of the advanced air defense system.

Iran’s tensions with West aim to stall nuclear talks: analysts

Geplaatst door Kris Roman op 29/06/2009

Heightened tensions between Iran and the West after the Islamic republic’s disputed presidential poll allow Tehran to deflect demands to re-start talks on its nuclear programme, analysts said Monday.

But experts agree that Iran has no intention of sliding into international isolation like North Korea over its nuclear ambitions.

Iranian authorities arrested nine local staff at the British embassy in recent days, the latest move in Tehran’s effort to portray Britain as the chief foreign instigator of the violence which flared after the June 12 vote.

Genuine Protests or US Plan to Destabilize Iran?

Geplaatst door Kris Roman op 22/06/2009

Unfortunately, some of the new Administration’s tactics are those of the old. Most likely, it became apparent to US strategists that attacking Iran militarily was impossible for the foreseeable future. It would be an extremely costly operation both in terms of finances and personnel, both of which are in short supply.

Before leaving office, the Bush administration is said to have funneled hundreds of millions of dollars into a plan to infiltrate and destabilize Iran. On May 23, 2007, Brian Ross and Richard Esposito reported on ABC News: “The CIA has received secret presidential approval to mount a covert “black” operation to destabilize the Iranian government, current and former officials in the intelligence community tell…ABC News.” On May 27, 2007, the London Telegraph independently reported: “Mr. Bush has signed an official document endorsing CIA plans for propaganda and disinformation campaign intended to destabilize, and eventually topple, the theocratic rule of the mullahs.” It was to be called it the “Bush Black Ops Plan.”

Israel stands ready to bomb Iran’s “nuclear sites”

Geplaatst door Kris Roman op 20/04/2009

The Israeli military is preparing itself to launch a massive aerial assault on Iran’s nuclear facilities within days of being given the go-ahead by its new government.

Among the steps taken to ready Israeli forces for what would be a risky raid requiring pinpoint aerial strikes are the acquisition of three Airborne Warning and Control (AWAC) aircraft and regional missions to simulate the attack.

Two nationwide civil defence drills will help to prepare the public for the retaliation that Israel could face.

“Israel wants to know that if its forces were given the green light they could strike at Iran in a matter of days, even hours. They are making preparations on every level for this eventuality. The message to Iran is that the threat is not just words,” one senior defence official told The Times.

Obama Offered Deal to Russia in Secret Letter

Geplaatst door Kris Roman op 02/03/2009

By PETER BAKER

President Obama sent a secret letter to Russia’s president last month suggesting that he would back off deploying a new missile defense system in Eastern Europe if Moscow would help stop Iran from developing long-range weapons, American officials said Monday.

The letter to President Dmitri A. Medvedev was hand-delivered in Moscow by top administration officials three weeks ago. It said the United States would not need to proceed with the interceptor system, which has been vehemently opposed by Russia since it was proposed by the Bush administration, if Iran halted any efforts to build nuclear warheads and ballistic missiles.
